Lutheran? Find Out

OK, we get a little parochial here. Give this a try and you may surprise yourself. (Unfortunately, I can't find a way to figure out where I screwed up on my 1%.)

You are 99% Lutheran! This is most certainly true.

Nicely done! Martin would be proud of you! You may or may not have room for growth in understanding Lutheran terminology and culture. Good thing Salvation is by Grace and not by merit. We can add nothing to what God has done for us in Christ Jesus. But it never hurts to learn a little more about the church on earth. Thanks for taking the quiz!

After you've finished that quiz, switch over to big-time Lutheran discussion at Concordia: The Lutheran Confessions, here, with its open discussion of the Book of Concord.

I only scored 84%, the new hymnals for those beyond the ELCA and LCMS screwed me up, but pretty good for one who has not been or is Lutheran. I got the most important ones right "the Solas" and "Salvation is by God's grace 100%". I think I'll avoid the ueber discussions, however.

Well, I scored 84% and I suppose this is not too surprising.

LCMS? WELS? LFC? ULCA? LSB? TLH? Maybe a better name for the test would be "Are you an American Lutheran"? :-) You may not be aware of it but there are in fact Lutherans outside the USA...

81% here. I think this tool is flawed, though. It concentrates heavily on things like which synod uses which hymnal, and doesn't ask nearly enough questions about theology.

I agree with anonymous #2 and Dash -- I came out at 78% (!) mostly because it has an awful lot to do with hymnals and synod names, which I don't know. (I think I still know the theology somewhat.) ;)

100 percent, bay-bee!

Dwight, you got every question right, but they read your ip address and knew that you had a tendency to exalt sanctification, so they demoted you a percent for that. :)

Actually, Chip, I re-took the test (when you guess on most of the questions, it's fair to do a re-take) and I scored 100%. I really wish that they'd give the "scoring apparatus." Apparently, I over-scored, by your analysis.

And that leads me to this: When I applied to law school, which I did in my late 30s, I was informed by the admissions diretor that because my undergraduate grades were so old and because grade inflation was such a problem, with old codgers like me, the school added a full 1 point to my gpa. That meant that I entered law school with a 4.87 or something like on a 4-point scale. So see, I am brilliant.

Now as to hymnals, my suspicion is that that may be all we can say with any certainty about Lutherans in America. Doctrinally, can you find anyone making definitive, orthodox-Lutheran statements that would enable one to develop an objective test?

One cranky comment to you Anonymous: If you're going to criticize me or raise questions about my global consciousness, don't hide behind the screen. I'll be happy to discuss world Lutheranism or other global Christian movements. In fact, I did not develop this tool, as ought to have been obvious from my not scoring 100%.
